〔Abstract〕 Objective To investigate the construction of silver-carrying coating on titanium implants and its antibacterial effect againstPorphyromonas gingivalis(Pg), and to provide a new method for antibacterial modification of titanium implants. Methods Titanium dioxide nanotube structure was prepared by anodicoxidation on the surface of pure titanium, the silver-loaded chitosan and heparin were adsorbed alternately on the surface of the nanotube by layer by layer self-assembly method, and the silver-loaded multilayer film coating was constructed. The samples were characterized and detected by scanning electron microscopy, contact angle measuring instrument, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Ultraviolet spectrophotometer. The samples were cocultured with Pg to observe its antibacterial effect on bacteria. Results Characterization test confirmed that the silver-loaded multilayer film was deposited successfully on the surface of the titanium sheet and its hydrophilicity was improved. The bacteriological test showed that the antibacterial property of titanium implants was significantly improved, and the antibacterial effect was enhanced with the increase of the concentration of silver. Conclusion The silver coating on the surface of titanium implants can effectively inhibit the growth of Pg and the formation of biofilm, which is expected to improve the antibacterial properties of titanium implants.
