〔Abstract〕 To explore the effect of preoperative gum chewing on postoperative sore throat(POST) after tracheal intubation using a double-lumen endobronchial tube(DLT). Compared with control group, the incidence of postoperative sore throat and hoarseness at 1, 6 and 24 h after surgery decreased in gum chewing group. The visual analogue scale score for POST also decreased in gum chewing group. Preoperative gum chewing reduced the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat after tracheal intubation using a DLT.
